Helena a étudié le dessin, la peinture et la sculpture figurative au Studio Escalier en France, l'Angel Academy of Arts à Florence, ainsi que le Grand Central Atelier à New York. Elle détient une maîtrise de la New York Academy of Art (2018) et est récipiendaire de plusieurs prix et bourses, dont trois de la Fondation Elizabeth Greenshields. Ses oeuvres se retrouvent dans plusieurs collections privées et publiques à travers le monde.

Démarche

Je peins le vivant en moi et autour de moi: qu'il s'agisse du portrait d'un membre de ma famille, d'un souvenir ou d'une fleur, pour tenter d’exprimer le dynamisme et la complexité des relations qui nous animent. Mes sujets cherchent à se défaire des barrières de la forme et du temps, sans jamais perdre l’émotion qui les a vu naître. J’utilise une combinaison de médiums absorbants qui ne se retouchent pas avec d’autres qui se travaillent à l’infini. Toute mon œuvre cherche à exprimer cette tension entre mouvance et cristallisation. Une constante observation de la nature est au cœur de ma pratique, et influence énormément mon processus.

Helena studied figurative drawing, painting and sculpture at the Studio Escalier in France, the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, and the Grand Central Atelier in New York. A graduate of the New York Academy of Art (MFA 2018), she is a recipient of various prizes and honours, including three grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. Her work can be found in private and public collections across the world.

Statement

I paint what feels most alive to me in the moment, whether the portrait of a family member, a memory, or a flower, in an attempt to convey the dynamism and complexity of the relationships that shape our lives. My subjects seek to break free from the barriers of form and time, without ever losing the emotion that gave rise to them. I use a combination of absorbent media that cannot be retouched, with oil painting which can be endlessly reworked. My work always seeks to express this tension between movement and crystallization. Ongoing engagement with the natural world largely informs my process, outside and inside the studio.
